The Rhode Island Antique Fire Apparatus Society, the Rhode Island chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America (SPAAMFAA) will be holding its 14th Annual Antique Fire Apparatus and Equipment Show on Sunday, September 9, 2018.
The show will run from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at Johnston Memorial Park, 1583 Hartford Ave, Johnston, RI. Admission to the show is free. We will however be collecting new, unwrapped toys that will be distributed to needy families during the holiday season.
The show will consist of a display of antique motorized fire apparatus and other fire memorabilia. There will be a Fire Safety Smoke House for children to go through. Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog are also scheduled to make an appearance during the show.
RIAFAS was founded in 2004 by 11 people with 9 antique fire trucks. Today membership is approximately 150 members with approximately 90 antique fire trucks.
Anyone with a piece of antique fire apparatus who wishes to display their apparatus in the show should contact the RIAFAS Secretary Bill Willet for a registration form. A registration form can also be downloaded here. The deadline to register for the show is Sunday, September 2nd.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, & refreshments will be available and RIAFAS souvenir t-shirts and hats will be sold during the show to help raise money for the Society. Entertainment to be provided by Joe Vingi of Pleasure Sounds Unlimited.
Once again, the refreshment stand will be staffed by the Providence Canteen.
Anyone interested in joining the Rhode Island Antique Fire Apparatus Society will have the opportunity to do so at the show. NOTE: you do not have to own an antique fire truck to join, just have an appreciation for them.
